The Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has finally conducted the first Express Entry Draw on the 6th of December since October, 23. IRCC has issued 4750 invitations to apply (ITA’s) for the recent Express Entry Draw. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking Score (CRS) for this has been set at 561.

This Express Entry Draw is the first since the 26th of October,2023 where 3600 ITA’s were issued with the minimum CRS score of 431. We are witnessing a noticeable rise in the current CRS cut-off.

Earlier on the 14th of November, IRCC tweeted about the anticipated delay in the Express Entry Draw due to the issues in submitting the applications using the Express Entry Profile Builder. A follow-up tweet was posted on the 16th of November.

IRCC conducted two additional draws on the 24th and 25th of October respectively. The Draw conducted on the 25th of October was based on the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Express Entry candidates that are nominated through PNP receive an extra 600 CRS points that increase the 2023 minimum CRS score for this category of Draw.

What is Category Based Selection:

IRCC began the category-based Draw nominations on the 28th of June, 2023. This was introduced to address specific labor market challenges that had risen formidably and were straining the Canadian Economy. This category-based Draw would nominate candidates based on specific work experiences and proficiencies. These are the prime categories that are being focused on by IRCC:

  • French-language proficiency
  • Healthcare industry work experience
  • Work experience in STEM professions
  • Work experience in Trade occupations
  • Work experience in Transportation
  • Agriculture and Food industry work experience

What is Express Entry Draw?

Express Entry is the application management system that processes permanent residence applications conducted by the Federal Skilled Worker Program. An ITA is issued by the IRCC to all the eligible candidates in a program draw who have achieved the minimum CRS score. These points are attributed based on their work experience, language ability, occupation, education, and age. The candidate can then apply for permanent residency at the IRCC within 60 days. IRCC aims to process all Express Entry applications within this time frame.
