Canada Immigration: Latest BC PNP Draw Invites Skilled Workers and Graduates

The province of British Columbia held its latest provincial nominee program (PNP) draw on January 23, 2024, inviting around 215 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. This BC PNP draw focused on applicants in the skilled worker, international graduate, and entry level/semi-skilled streams.

A total of 79 invitations were issued for skilled workers and graduates under the BC PNP General category draw. Applicants needed a minimum score of 120 points under the BC PNP points grid to qualify. 

This draw attracts skilled workers in high-demand occupations like construction, engineering, health care, and childcare. This draw saw invitations go to workers in childcare (66), construction (34), healthcare (36), and veterinary care (around 5). Minimum scores for these categories ranged from 60 to 75 points.

In addition to these invitations, some invitations were also sent to candidates in the entry level and semi-skilled streams, which require a minimum score of 98 points. These streams help applicants with lower skilled backgrounds gain permanent residence in BC.

BC continues to prioritize tech occupations to meet labour market needs across the province. The BC PNP allows the province to nominate qualified applicants for expedited permanent residence processing. 

Candidates invited in this latest draw now have up to 180 days to submit a full application to the BC PNP office. If approved as a provincial nominee, they can apply for permanent residence through Express Entry.

 Here are the key steps to apply for permanent residence through the British Columbia PNP:

1. Check your eligibility - Make sure you meet the criteria for one of the BC PNP streams such as the Skills Immigration, International Graduate, or Express Entry BC categories. Factors like your occupation, work experience, and education are assessed.

2. Take language tests - You'll need to provide valid language test results showing proficiency in English or French for the BC PNP. Common accepted tests are IELTS, CELPIP, or TEF.

3. Get your Express Entry profile - Create an Express Entry profile and get your profile number even if you plan to apply through a PNP stream. Your EE profile is linked to provincial nominations.

4. Have a job offer (if required) - Some BC PNP streams require a valid job offer from a BC employer. Your offer must be in an eligible occupation and meet wage requirements.

5. Gather documents - Prepare all required documents such as educational credentials, proof of work experience, identity documents, and evidence of settlement support in BC.

6. Submit complete application - Pay the fee and submit your complete BC PNP application online or by mail. Ensure all forms are fully filled out.

7. Await nomination - If approved as a provincial nominee, you'll get a nomination certificate to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry.

8. Apply for PR - After nomination, submit your permanent residence application through Express Entry within the stipulated time frame.

9. Land in Canada - Upon approval of PR, you'll be issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence to officially immigrate to BC as a permanent resident.
