The Government of Canada has conducted another Express Entry draw, inviting 730 immigration candidates to apply for permanent residence. This latest draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 541. 

Express Entry is Canada's main economic immigration system, managing applications for three programs - the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Candidates receive points based on factors like education, work experience, age, and languages. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for Canada immigration in regular draws.

Over 110,000 ITAs were issued through Express Entry in 2023 to help Canada meet its immigration targets. With strong immigration levels planned again for 2024, regular Express Entry draws are expected to continue.

Changes to Post-Graduation Work Permit Rules

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) allows international graduates from Canadian schools to gain valuable Canadian work experience. This helps many qualify for permanent residence through Express Entry. 

Recent PGWP changes will allow more students to be eligible. As of September 2024, graduate-level programs shorter than 8 months will now qualify for 3-year PGWPs. Previously the PGWP was tied to the length of the academic program. This change opens new Canada immigration options for more international graduates.

However, students at private career colleges participating in curriculum licensing agreements will no longer be eligible for the PGWP. Immigration candidates are advised to review the updated PGWP criteria when planning their Canada immigration journey.
