The government of Canada always ensures that the workers are getting paid satisfactorily with the aim that no one has to struggle to get day-to-day necessities. To overcome this, the government has already announced an increase in the Minimum Wage in Canada from Oct 2024.

The Minimum Wage is essential for the Canadian economy. It is the lowest legal wage that employees are getting paid by their employers. If the price of consumers increases, then the wages of workers will be primarily to fulfill the basic needs of life.

The current minimum wage in Canada, 2024, is approximately $16.50 on an hourly basis, which is expected to be raised occasionally. According to the Canadian government, the Minimum Wage Increase is important for immigrants concerned about the wages or salaries paid to workers. Now, it has become easy for them to immigrate to Canada and start a new life there with their family. 

During a survey, it was noted that about 43% of companies plan to grant an additional financial estimate to an average salary worker. It was also pointed out that specific sectors are likely to be seen in the Canada Minimum Wage Increase From Oct 2024 on an hourly basis. 

The government of Nunavut has already taken a step to increase the minimum wage from $16.00 to $19.00 per hour on January 1, 2024, and secure the title of the highest minimum wage in Canada.

What is the Minimum Wage Increase in the Federal States?

As the Provincial government sets the minimum wage for their workers in the provinces, the Federal government also decides the minimum wage for their sectors. 

The current minimum wage is $16.65 per hour, and the expected increase in wage is scheduled for April 1, 2024. The predicted new minimum wage is based on an average CPI of 3.1% over 12 months, approximately $17.17 per hour. 

Increase in Canadian Minimum Wage opens the door for immigrants:

  • Providing the employment agreement to the employee
  • The employer cannot force an employee to perform a duty that is not in the job description of an employee
  • The employer cannot take away the passport/visa of an employee
