Do changes in Australia Immigration Requirements & Fees affect Immigrants?

1022

Well, you must be worried about the latest Australia immigration updates. But, the main question is do these changes affect your immigration dream?

So, the answer is simple– NO.

The immigration policies and requirements are subject to change from time to time. It doesn’t matter whether you are applying for a PR visa, study visa, or a tourist visa– it all changes.

As of August 07, 2025, there is important news for Australian immigrants. It is noted that the language proficiency requirements are somewhat getting relaxed.

Now, what are these changes? Let’s check it out!

Australia Immigration changes 2025

The Department of Home Affairs has now implemented some of the most significant changes in the language tests and recognizes a broader list, making it easier for aspiring immigrants to immigrate to Australia.

Here is the newly accepted English language tests (post August 07):

1. CELPIP General: This test is officially designated for applicants who are applying for permanent residency by IRCC, for visa purposes by DHA. It will evaluate your English reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Plus, it is also accepted for professional designations, universities, colleges, and vocational programs.

2. LANGUAGECERT Academic: A multi-level test designed specially to determine your ability to understand, use, and communicate effectively within an academic setting in English. You must participate in lectures, discussions, reading, analysing academic texts, and writing research papers.

3. MET (Michigan English Test): This is the most straightforward English test compared to others. Whether you are looking for professional, personal, or academic purposes in Australia or around the world, this is the only test you need.

Why is it important in Australia Immigration?

These significant changes in the immigration requirements bring both challenges and opportunities for immigrants who want to settle in Australia permanently.

Here are some of the key points you must know:

  • If you have obtained your English language test result before August 06, 2025, your test is still valid. But it depends on the visa subclass and the validity period of the test scores.
  • The exemptions remain unchanged. Including the passport requirements and the level of study.
  • Now, the Department accepts a wider range of tests, including the computer-based and paper-based versions.
  • The online versions of the test, such as TOEFL iBT home edition, OET@Home, PTE academic online, IELTS online, and IELTS indicator, are not accepted for Australia immigration.

Now, the positive outcome is that you can choose the language test from multiple options. Plus, the score requirement is relatively low, making it easier for you to ace the exam.

But the expansion of the accepted test also means the expansion of extra research, cost, and time.

It means, for some, this may speed up the process, while for others, it may mean retaking the language exams to meet the requirements.

Though you will get the essential details in this blog, it is better to ask experts for better insights and a deeper understanding.

Updated Australia Immigration Language Requirements

The following data are updated, effective from August 07, 2025. However, it is important to remember that tests taken before August 06 are still acceptable.

So, if you have given your language test before August 06, you don’t need to worry, your test is still accepted.
