Imagine a doorway that leads straight to your dream country- Canada!
Every couple of weeks, this door swings open, giving skilled individuals worldwide a chance to step through. If you have the right set of skills, experience, and determination, this could be your doorway to a new life in Canada, one of the most welcoming countries on Earth.
Twice a month (well, most of the time), Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) hosts this incredible “draw”. Thousand of aspiring candidates wait eagerly, their profiles ready, their dreams clear- whether it’s building a new career, enjoying Canada's stunning winters, or giving their family a new beginning. This isn’t just another process, it is a moment of opportunity that could open the door to a new life.
Okay, Let me simplify it for you. Express Entry is a point-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Think of CRS as your scorecard - It evaluates you on these aspects stated below:
Age: The younger you are, the more points you get! If you are in the sweet spot of 20-29 years old, you’re in a great position to rack up CRS points just from your age alone. Sorry 45+ gang, it’s tougher for you! But there are ways to make up for it. You can boost your score by improving other factors like language skills, work experience, or getting a provincial nomination.
Education: Canada values candidates who have higher education because they are more likely to contribute more to the workforce and economy.
Post-secondary education: (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PhD) earns you more points, with PhD giving the most.
If you studied in Canada, you earn additional points.
For foreign education, you need an Educational Credentials Assessment (ECA) to show it’s equal to Canadian standards.
Work Experience: Another biggie to your Express Entry. You earn points for experience in skilled jobs (NOC 0, A, B). If you have 3+ years of experience in the same field the more points you get.
Language Skills: Bonjour! You’ll need to take a test like IELTS or TOEFL. The higher you score in speaking, listening, reading, and writing the more points you get. Oh! If you speak both English and French, that’s a big win- you get extra points for being bilingual.
The higher your score - The Invitation to Apply (ITA) is yours!
The most recent Express Entry draw for Canada happened on January 7, 2025. Canada invited a total of 471 candidates, with the lowest CRS score of the invited candidates being 793 under the PNP category. It is anticipated that the next draw will take place on or around 12-13 January. So keep an eye on it.
Spoiler Alert: These dates are not set in stone, so keep refreshing Stark Visa’s website like its concert tickets for your favorite band.
