What is NOC Canada?

The National Occupational Classification is a system created by the Canadian Government. It categorises all the jobs based on the skill level. According to IRCC, the NOC Codes are classified as Skill A/B/0/C/D.

Skill Types A and B are high-skilled work whereas Skill Types C and D are low-skilled work. NOC Codes classify the occupations according to the TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Research) category.

What is the Structure of NOC Category? 

There is a five digit NOC Code. It is structured in the manner in which the first digit shows the broad category, and the second digit portrays the TEER group and the third one shows the sub-major groups. 

The fourth and fifth digit shows minor groups and detailed occupations respectively. Every job occupation in Canada gets a five digit code. 

NOC Code Processing Time 

NOC Code takes four hours to process at the initial stage. It will take 48 hours to get the NOC. 

Broad Category of NOC Code 

There are several broad categories of NOC Code:- 

0 - Legislative and senior management occupations
1 - Business, finance and administration occupations
2 - Natural and applied sciences and related occupations
3 - Health occupations
4 - Occupations in education, law and social, community and government services
5 - Occupations in art, culture, recreation and sport
6 - Sales and service occupations
7 - Trades, transport and equipment operators and related occupations
8 - Natural resources, agriculture and related production occupations
9 - Occupations in manufacturing and utilities
 

Revised Policy of NOC

IRCC revised its policy on November 16,2022. Earlier, in 2016 every candidate was classified according to the skill types.

TEER 0
Jobs in management
TEER 1
Obtaining a degree (bachelor's, master's, or PhD) from a university
Years of experience in a particular TEER category two-related occupation, if applicable.
TEER 2
Successful completion of a two- to three-year post-secondary education program at a community college
The successful completion of a two- to five-year apprenticeship training program or occupations involving supervision or significant safety (such as those involving police officers and firefighters)
Several years of experience in a particular TEER category 3-related occupation, if applicable.
TEER 3
Post-secondary education program completion by community college or institute of technology
Done an Apprenticeship program of less than two years
More than six months of specialized work experience, along with some secondary school education, training courses, or on-the-job training
Years of experience in a particular TEER category four occupations is the requirement.
TEER 4
On- the- job training with some reputed secondary school
Several years of experience in a particular TEER category five-related occupation, if applicable.
TEER 5
Only a work demonstration is needed. No formal educational requirements are required.
