Did you know? The fourth most popular country for overseas students to study in is Canada. Yes! You heard it right.

Right from the great infrastructure to the well-developed educational system, everything has become an attraction point for immigrants.

The number of Americans wishing to relocate to Canada has increased dramatically recently. There are a lot of possibilities for immigration to Canada as a US citizen.

Permanent residence in Canada can be an excellent option if you wish to begin your profession or pursue graduate education.

1. Move To Canada From US As A Permanent Resident

One of the easiest ways to have Canada Permanent Residency is through Express Entry.

Express Entry is the most common and direct route to permanent residence in Canada. Candidates are assessed using a points-based system that takes into account a number of criterias including age, education, work experience and language ability.

Once you are eligible for the Express Entry, you will go through the whole application process.

The application process can be tedious and time consuming. It is suggested that you should hire an immigrant consultant for the procedure.

Our team has the experience and the expertise on immigration and is updated on the recent immigration policies.

This will ease out the problems of the potential immigrant applying through the Express Entry pathway.

Under the Express Entry, there are three main programs-

a). Federal Skilled Workers Program

You might be qualified for the Federal Skilled Worker Program if -

  • You have at least a year of experience in a skilled field
  • You have meet the minimal language criteria in either French or English
  • You have received at least 67 out of 100 points on the FSW selection grid.

b).Federal Trades Workers Program

You may be eligible for the Federal Skilled Trades Program if -

  • You have two years of experience in a skilled trade
  • You have meet the minimum language requirements in either French or English
  • You have a job offer in your skilled trade in Canada
  • You have a Canadian certificate of qualification to practice your trade in Canada.

c).Canadian Experience Class

You may be eligible for the Canadian Experience Class if -

  • You have worked in a skilled employment (NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3) in Canada for at least a year with a valid work permit
  • You meet the minimal language criteria in French or English.

2. Work In Canada

If you are a US resident who wants to work in Canada, Canada offers three work permits.

  • CUSMA Work Permits

The Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) is an economic pact that allows for the entry of certain kinds of temporary workers into each other's markets to promote trade between the three nations, namely Canada, the US, and Mexico.

Suppose an American citizen receives an employment offer from a Canadian business. In that case, they can apply for CUSMA work permits under the International Mobility Program, eliminating the need for an LMIA and allowing them to work temporarily in Canada.

  • Employer Specific Work Permit

You can go Canada with an employer-specific work permit provided you have a legitimate job offer from that particular employer. A person with this work permit will require LMIA as well. After entering Canada with an employer-specific work permit, anyone who wants to change jobs must apply for a new work permit.

  • Spousal Open Work Permit

You can be qualified for a spousal open work permit if your spouse or common-law partner is an international student or temporary foreign worker in Canada. As long as your present work permit is  valid, you would not need to obtain a new one even if you change jobs in between.

3. Study In Canada

Recently, there has been an increase in the number of people coming from the US to study in Canada. The reasons are simple- lower tuition fees, shorter course duration, and adaptability.

  • Study Permits

For graduates and overseas students who wish to pursue further education to obtain a master's or doctoral degree, a study permit is a great choice. The academic training must be more than six months and should occur at an approved educational institution to be eligible for a Canadian study permit.Certain individuals may not get a study visa and, as a result, be ineligible for this path to permanent residence.

  • Post- Graduation Work Permit

The Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a great benefit of studying in Canada as an international student. You may apply for the open work permit within 180 days after you have graduated from an academic program. Depending on the duration of the academic degree, the permit can be valid for eight months to three years.

Although the Canadian government came up with various policies to extend the PGWP under certain conditions further, it did not yield fruitful results. As a result, it cannot be renewed or extended. By utilizing PGWP, you can obtain work experience and points that can help you gain permanent residence in Canada.
