Eligibility Criteria for UK Points-Based Calculator under Skilled Worker Program

1- Your UK employer has to be approved by Home-Office

Employers who wish to hire skilled professionals from abroad must have a sponsorship license from the UK Home Office. A candidate wishing to immigrate to the UK through the Skilled Worker route will receive 20 points if the job is listed in the Shortage Occupation List (SOL). They must have a total of 70 points for a foreign skilled worker to be eligible for this pathway.

2- Your job must qualify ‘Going Rate’ 

‘Going rate’ by definition is the specific salary requirement that is unique by occupation. Under the UK's new immigration points system, the ‘minimum salary threshold’ or ‘going rate’ for any job offer must be £25,600 or more. 

 3- The job requires skill level RQF3 (A level) or higher

Under the UK's points-based immigration system, candidates who have a job offer requiring skill level RQF 3 or above (A Level and equivalent) are awarded 20 points.
 
Level 1 is the lowest level whereas Level 8 is for the applicants who have earned a Ph.D. in their field of study. The table below shows the RQF level along with the education level.

5- The candidate must be able to prove language skills

You must be able to prove your english language skills and that could earn you 10 points. You will have to take the SELT (Secure English Language Test). 

6- You can earn additional 20 tradeable points

According to the new UK immigration system, you can ‘trade’ your lower salary with job offers or higher qualifications. You can earn 20 more additional points.

You may apply for Permanent Residency if you match the qualifying requirements and have been a resident of the UK for five years with a UK Skilled Worker Visa. This allows you to reside, work, and settle in the UK permanently.

What is a UK Skilled Worker Visa?

The main purpose of the UK Skilled Worker Visa is to attract highly skilled foreign workers to the labour market. This visa enables them to obtain Permanent Residency (PR) of the country. 
 
The skilled workers from foreign countries are selected if their occupation lies in SOL (Shortage Occupation List). They may also remain in the UK for a maximum of five years.

UK Skilled Worker Route 

The Skilled Worker route encloses the majority of UK jobs eligible for overseas recruitment. This provides a simple and flexible process for accessing the global talent pool.
 
If you want to be hired from outside the UK under the Skilled Worker route must provide proof of:
  • You must have a job offer from a Home Office-licensed sponsor 
  • The position is offered you must be at RQF 3 or higher.
  • You must show English proficiency.

  • The Skilled Worker Route allows you to take up additional voluntary or involuntary work with your sponsored job. 
  • You may work up to 20 hours in a job which is equivalent to your primary job in terms of job level and occupation code.
